Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Ethno-RME approach on students' mathematical reasoning abilities in geometric transformation material. The study was conducted in Maryam's ninth grade class as the experimental group. Maimunah's ninth grade class was designated as the control group. Samples were determined using the saturated sample technique. Data were collected through tests and observation sheets. Data analysis used the n-gain score test. The normality test used Shapiro-Wilk. The difference test used Mann-Whitney U. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the group that applied the Ethno-RME approach and conventional learning. This occurred because the duration of the treatment was relatively short, while mathematical reasoning ability is a high-level ability that cannot develop optimally in a short time. Nevertheless, the Ethno-RME approach showed a positive influence. Based on an n-gain score of 0.67, the application of the Ethno-RME approach was moderately effective. Therefore, further research is recommended to extend the duration of Ethno-RME application in order to obtain more optimal and statistically significant results
